CARR Centritech

Description

PSA’s CARRCentritech division is a global leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing of liquid/solid centrifugal separation systems offering innovative and enabling solutions in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals including vaccines and  therapeutics, animal vaccines and  specialty chemicals including ink jet ink, cosmetic additives and controlled release drug delivery systems.

Legacy systems:

The CARR Powerfuge® and Viafuge® Separation Systems with separating forces up 20,000 x G are offered with automatic CIP and SIP to allow for a complete aseptic processing. Optional hazardous duty (Class 1, Div 1) configurations available.

Single-use systems:

The CARR UniFuge® Separation System, a first of its kind, meets a significant unmet manufacturing need in the biotech industry – a single-use process centrifuge that eliminates the need for expensive cleaning and sterilization requirements and reduces the possibility of contamination.  The UniFuge® enables the biopharmaceutical industry to produce the critical medicines we need faster and for significantly less cost.

The Centritech Separation System is the first single-use centrifuge developed for perfusion cell culture processes and cell banking applications, including the emerging stem cell market.

History

CARR Separations was founded in 1993 by Robert “Bret” Carr and his father Bob Carr in Medfield, MA. They introduced the Powerfuge Separation System,  the first high speed (up to 20,000 x g), solid bowl centrifuge with automatic solids discharge  and True-clean® CIP capabilities.  Through the 1990’s CARR Separation established itself as an industry innovator and a world class supplier of liquid-solid separation to the Life Sciences and Specialty Chemical markets. After a period of explosive growth CARR Separations was acquired by Kendro Laboratories Products LLC, Newtown, CT in 2000. The Powerfuge and Viafuge Separation Systems were combined with Centritech Separation Systems to form the Kendro Bioprocess division. The Centritech Separation System, the first single-use centrifuge developed for cell culture was developed in Sweden.  In November 2004, the Barry-Wehmiller Companies’ PneumaticScaleAngelus division acquired the CARR Centritech Separation Systems relocating all functions to Clearwater, Florida. In 2009 PSA introduced the CARR UniFuge® Single-use Separation System, the first single-use centrifugal separation system developed for the emerging single-use cell culture market. Today, the CARR Centritech Separation Systems are used in the manufacturing of human and animal vaccines and therapeutic medicines.
